ABOUT SASK BALL HOCKEY

A Game For Everyone

The sport of ball hockey is a sport anyone can enjoy. Regardless, if you are a high level ice hockey player or have never strapped on the blades, this sport is for you.

The sport of ball hockey is played on foot, which eliminates the skating barrier, and requires minimal equipment, which eliminates the financial barrier, making it "A Game For Everyone!"

In 2014, there were aproximately 5000 registered players and over 200 teams province wide.

 

Ice Hockey and Ball Hockey
The sport is an excellent starting point for parents to determine if ice hockey is something there kids will enjoy.
Enrolling them in a less expensive version of the sport will determine if they have a love for the game of hockey and makes the transition to putting them into ice hockey much easier.

 

Benefits to Ice Hockey Players
For ice hockey players the sport is an excellent off-season conditioning tool, which also promotes: Stickhandling, vision and hand-eye coordination in the off season.

 

Travel:
There is no travel during league play or playoffs, for those aspiring players or teams their will be provincial championships or Team Sask try-outs for certain age groups. There will be travel for that specific weekend.


Set Venues:
In most cities our games are played in local hockey arenas when the ice is out. However, in some cities we use other venues that are identical to ice hockey facilities.  


Registered Officials:  
Most of our officials are ice hockey officials, All SBHL Officials must take a one day course to become PCBHA certified and receive on job training.


Set Days & Times
All of our youth leagues provide set days for each specific age category (Initiation - Bantam) as well as Adult Women and Co-ed Leagues. In our Midget and Mens leagues we schedule to avoid Friday night and Saturday times.


Timekeepers
Time-keepers are provided for all SBHL games. They are in charge of clock duties and game statistics, which is then updated on the league website.


Website (Stats Tracking):  
All of our leagues have their own website which players can view individual and players stats at anytime. Save percentage, points per game average, league leaders, etc., can all be found there.


Championship Opportunities
There are many opportunties for our youth and adult teams to participate at provincial, regional and national championships. For the elite level players there is opportunities to be selected to represent your respective country at the world ball hockey championships.
